The Player's Edition – Jump straight into the match
The 4-month release cycle only begins once enough players have had the opportunity to play Set 1 of Season 1 "Early Years". S&S prioritizes healthy player base growth over rushed releases.
For the first time, Shadows & Syndicates strictly separates players and collectors!
For players, this means:
- For the first time, players purchase complete sets. It is not an expandable core game, not a stripped-down product, and not a 2-player set. They are complete sets.
- Set over deck. There is no deck building and no meta. All players start on equal footing and enter matches with a complete set rather than a deck.
- A minimal core rule set and concise card text make getting started exceptionally easy. Strategic depth, much like chess, comes from player experience rather than pre-game preparation (deck building) or complex rulebooks.
- Every new Player's Edition set features a unique card border. Shadows & Syndicates sets contain no full-art cards, ensuring any mixing of sets is immediately noticeable—especially crucial for tournament play.
- Errata, card bans, and set rotations are eliminated. Sets are never mixed.
- Main sets never include foil cards. Foil cards aren't for everyone and can glare under poor lighting conditions. Foils for players and collectors are offered as a complete package—reducing environmental impact and manufacturing defect risks.
Great news for tournament players too!
Equal opportunities for everyone, as every player competes with the exact same complete set.
Tournaments feature only the current Player's Edition. Players and judges instantly spot illegal cards.
No tedious registration processes.
A comfortably shorter total event time makes hosting tournaments in local game stores much simpler.
